Eligibility criteria Evaluations will be based primarily on outstanding written and/or oral contributions describing recent research in the field of mycology. Excellence in the form of contributions to clinical management, diagnostics and the management of nosocomial infections will also be considered. The selection of the award recipient will be based on independent peer-review of a detailed application. The nominee shall be born in 1967 or later and may have carried out research in any part of the world, in a university, research institute, hospital or other relevant institution.

Nomenclature of fungal diseases: a report and recommendations from a Sub-Committee of the International Society for Human and Animal Mycology (ISHAM).
The ISHAM Mycoses Nomenclature Committee has considered the present status of fungal disease names. It suggests that the traditional approach to mycoses nomenclature in which the name of a causative taxon is suffixed with '-asis', '-iasis', '-osis' or '-mycosis' leads to names that are frequently unstable with respect to subsequent taxonomic and clinico-epidemiological changes. It is therefore ...
متن کاملTrichophyton tonsurans tinea capitis in the San Francisco Bay area: increased infection demonstrated in a 20-year survey of fungal infections from 1974 to 1994.
Tinea capitis caused by Trichophyton tonsurans has been increasing in the United States for the past 25 years. A retrospective study of dermatophyte culture data at the University of California, San Francisco, and a parallel study of patient visits for tinea capitis at an affiliated hospital demonstrates a dramatic rise in Trichophyton tonsurans tinea capitis in the San Francisco Bay area.
متن کاملIdentification of Blastomyces dermatitidis in the stool of a dog with acute pulmonary blastomycosis.
We report the identification of Blastomyces dermatitidis by microscopic examination of a direct faecal smear from a dog with pulmonary blastomycosis. A simultaneously obtained faecal culture grew Blastomyces dermatitidis. The fungus was also cultured from a transtracheal sample from this same dog. This report suggests that yeast-phase cells of B. dermatitidis may be recovered in the stool of do...
متن کاملCladophialophora bantiana isolated from an AIDS patient with pulmonary infiltrates.
Cladophialophora bantiana causes a rare phaeohyphomycosis, usually manifested by brain abscesses but rarely by skin or pulmonary lesions. It has not been reported as a common colonizer or as a cause of pulmonary symptoms in patients with AIDS. We present a case in which C. bantiana was repeatedly isolated from the sputum of a patient with AIDS having pulmonary infiltrates.
متن کاملPhylogenetic relationships of human-pathogenic Cladosporium (Xylohypha) species inferred from partial LS rRNA sequences.
The controversy about the appropriate taxonomic placement of agents of subcutaneous and systemic mycoses in either Cladosporium or Xylohypha, both genera characterized by conidia being produced in dry, acropetal chains, was addressed with partial sequencing of LS ribosomal RNA. Observation of catenate anamorphs in species of Capronia (Ascomycotina, Herpotrichiellaceae), a genus which also has a...
متن کاملNutritional physiology and taxonomy of human-pathogenic Cladosporium-Xylohypha species.
Physiological profiles of type, authentic and some additional isolates of Cladosporium-Xylohypha species of purported herpotrichiellaceous relationship are established. This group comprises melanized catenate hyphomycetes which are prevalently found on the human host. The species are excluded from the genus Cladosporium and are classified in the genus Cladophialophora. Taeniolella boppii is als...
